There are many reasons why a golf bag purchase takes some thought, not the least of which is the fashion aspect You can either pick one that makes you look like a dork unintentionally, or, you can pick a dorky one that makes you look cool because you are in on the joke.
No matter what style you choose though, you can end up wasting your money if you just aim for style over substance. When buying a bag, you need to consider the myriad needs this bag will fill from keeping your beer cold to being light enough to carry everything you will need on the course. There are bags for walkers and bags for carts.
Your average walking golfer will be carrying a bag for three to five hours so it’s important that you choose a bag that has padded shoulder straps whether you choose to use a one strap, sling over your shoulder type of those that criss cross, you want to be comfortable.
A kickstand is important in that it keeps your bag and clubs off the ground and makes it easy to view all your clubs while you are getting ready for your next shot.
A cart bag really is a whole other concept and a walking bag may not transition to a cart because of its smaller size. You could end up scooping up your clubs every time you move on.
Likewise, a cart bag doesn’t translate well to walking as it is not designed to be comfortable to hold, just sturdy enough to stay put in the cart.
Whichever suits you here are some items you should consider putting in your bag:
Balls, shoes, tees, gloves, towel, umbrella, rain gear, hat, sunglasses, snacks and drinks, first aid kit, cell phone (on vibrate of course), bug spray, pencils, divot tool, camera and sunscreen.
A bag is not going to change your game, unless you get one so heavy it wears you out and you can’t finish, but it is a worthwhile investment for protecting your gear and keeping it consolidated so you can answer any invitation to play without hesitation.
